A Guided Reading Experience.
This new series helps young readers acquire
and enhance 42 literal, inferential, critical and visual
reading skills through a multiple-step guided reading approach.
Students progress through text introductions and predictions,
vocabulary development, focused reading, skill and open-ended
questions, peer discussion groups, and culminating critical
thinking activities as they travel through each grade-specific
environment. Narrative, informational, persuasive/ argumentative,
and everyday/work texts are grade-appropriate.
Includes pretests and instruction, practice, and application
stages that
ensure that students are properly challenged. A complete
management system and extensive use of voice and illustrations
enhance this robust package.
Reading Explorers incorporates a multi-level
approach to developing reading comprehension
skills.
1. Instruction - In the Instruction phase, the program
automatically:
- Explains questions and how to find answers.
- Incorporates concept maps during or
after stories for
visual aids and skill reinforcement.
- Presents key vocabulary terms and definitions.
- Gives detailed explanations of correct
and incorrect answer choices.
- Refers students to highlighted text
for answer help.
2.
Practice - Upon the students request, in
the Practice phase, the program:
- Presents open-ended prediction questions
before
each passage and reviews after each passage.
- Allows students to review vocabulary.
- Encourages students to identify and
highlight key words, phrases, and sentences
to correctly answer questions.
3.
Application - In the Application
phase, the program:
- Reads the questions and answer choices.
- Provides visual feedback for answer
choices.
- Exposes students to standardized test
formats.
