Reading Realities At-Risk Series contains
45 topics at-risk teens Grades 6-12 want
to read about. This series is a low-level,
high-interest reading/writing program
that uses real-life situations to excite
middle and high school students about
reading and writing. Using a Directed
Reading-Thinking Approach (DRTA), Reading
Realities helps students focus on relevant
information, synthesize that information,
and integrate it into what they already
know. Focusing on topics that teenagers
face in their everyday lives, students
are encouraged to write their own reactions
and views in a non-threatening, confidential
atmosphere.
